Weaving Dances for 2 or 3 harps
Each of these dances incorporates a different sound effect on the harp, produced by weaving something between the strings. The sound effects do not overwhelm the music. They simply add color to enhance the character of the dance. The woven shoelaces in Shoelace Tango provide the muffled tone of a secret flirtation. The postcards in Postcard Pavane imitate the Renaissance drums which often accompany this stately dance. The loud buzzing of tinfoil in Tinfoil Jig conjures up visions of crowded pubs and lively folk festivals.
These three short and playful pieces may be performed individually or as a set. Harp 1 is an intermediate level. Harp 2 is a beginner level. The optional Harp 3 part has no written music and may be taught by rote, following the other parts. It could be played by someone who has had only a few lessons.
