Pavane pour une Infante Défunte (LHS)

The English translation of the title of this work, pavane for a dead princess, is misleading.  The pavane is a 16^th-century slow, processional type of court dance of Italian origin.   The “dead princess” Ravel had in mind when he wrote the music was a princess who had lived long ago in Spain and perhaps would have loved to dance to this music.
