Marilyn Costello (1924–1998) studied with Carlos Salzedo at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.  She became a teacher at the Curtis Institute of Music and was principal harpist of the Philadelphia Orchestra for 46 years.

“This book is not intended to be a “daily dozen” exercise book.  These exercises treat separately many aspects of harp playing: individual finger development, balanced hands, resonant tone production, and fluency of technique.

They must be played with constant attention to the quality of the sound.  Listening intently, relaxing, and the use of complete finger action will produce a full, projecting, resonant sound…” M. Costello
