Trois Noels (LHS)

                “These three noels are intended to provide harpists and keyboardists with a new set of melodies for the Christmas season.  They were written for players of any level who want to express the beauty which comes from traditional French noels, hymns, plainchant and danses.

                The first piece, La berceuse de Noel (Berceuse Noel), is meditative and is set in the Aeolian mode.  The second, La danse des anges (Angels’ Dance), is patterned after the manner of the medieval French danse and is set in the transposed Dorian mode.  Lastly, Les trois rois (The Three Kings) is also meditative and alternates between D minor and Dorian.

                These pieces may also be used for spiritual and healing purposes at any time of the year.  The canons and the intervals which accompany the melodies, the simple fifths, are healing elements.  The triple meter of the first and third pieces, tempus perfectum, recalls the ancient symbolism of the Trinity.
