Bach and a noted harpsichordist and composer.  His homophonic writing reflects a departure from his father’s polyphonic style…The piece is a brief spirited work and an excellent study vehicle for developing speed and clear articulation.  It is also an attractive performance encore.

AIR – Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713–1780), was a pupil of J. S. Bach and a respected organist and composer.  His music is illustrative of the gradual trend toward the homophonic style…Fingerings have been provided over each ornament to indicate the precise notes to be played…

His compositions included cantatas and odes, chamber music, works for the stage and eight symphonies.  The symphonies, published in London during the year 1760, exhibit an exhilarating freshness and vitality of invention.  This is apparent in the Gavotte from Symphony No. 4 which in recent time became popular as a BBC Radio signature tune…”  E.
