Ruth Inglefield (1938-2019) was an internationally acclaimed harpist, professor, and champion of contemporary harp music. After studying with Marcel Grandjany and Pierre Jamet, she earned a PhD in musicology and served on faculty at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. Her publications include a biography of Mr. Grandjany, the first-ever manual on composing for the harp (co-authored by Lou Anne Neill), and a beloved pedagogical series of compositions. A life-long dedication to working with composers and premiering new music led her to found the Composition Contest for the USA International Harp Competition in 2003. The Contest was posthumously named in her honor, and has inspired over 400 works for the harp thus far.
