“Greetings fellow musicians and fans of Domenico Scarlatti. This collection of seven sonatas selected from the 555 sonatas for harpsichord, was made for my trio for use in the concert hall. Some of these arrangements will play well for weddings and other events but not without a rehearsal. I believe these will also work well for student ensembles. Below are some thoughts and useful information about each sonata.
Sonata K 146 is a spirited and playful piece with an elastic tempo…
K 27. This mysterious and thought-provoking sonata should not be played too slowly or too quickly, always seeking out the flexibility and poetry in the music…
K 547. …This sonata has strong flamenco overtones, and the cadenza bar needs to reflect this…
K 208 is one of the most lyrical, poetic and best-loved sonatas. Here the flute and cello are trading off the solo line while the harp expands the harmonic tapestry…
K 209 is another sonata with strong flamenco influence…
K 247 was chosen for the flute to be the soloist throughout…
K 491. I first heard this piece in the late 1960’s played on a Moog synthesizer by Walter Carlos. His choice of ornaments inspired me and I have kept them in this present edition.” Dan Reiter 2018
