Sentara was inspired by attending a healing harp workshop in my youth. Each attendee at the workshop was challenged to compose a theme with a healing mood. This melody came to me and many years later, I finally finished it! Sentara was the name of the medical center where the workshop took place and I felt it was fitting for the final product! This piece is meant to heal and relax both the audience and player. A driving, rhythmic middle section gives the piece an interesting twist before coming back to the soothing theme at the end. Many folks tell me that they hear different storylines in this piece – from envisioning an enchanted forest, to a sunset over the mountains, to overcoming adversity. My hope is that your soul will be so relaxed playing this that you can find your story!

Liana Alpino’s Sentara is for solo pedal harp. Written in part while attending a healing harps workshop, the main theme in this piece is meant to do just that – heal and relax both the audience and player. A driving, rhythmic middle section gives the piece an interesting twist before coming back to the soothing theme at the end. Alpino says “many folks tell me they hear different storylines in this piece – from envisioning an enchanted forest, to a sunset over the mountains, to overcoming adversity. My hope is that the player’s soul will be so relaxed playing this that they can find their own story!”
