Words from the author’s Forward:
“This transcription of the Intermezzo Sinfonico from Pietro Mascagni’s opera Cavalleria Rusticana is the first of several opera/ballet transcriptions I have created… For me, it is important in my transcriptions to remain as true to the original score as possible.
In my initial attempt to adapt this Intermezzo for solo harp, I discovered that the piano reduction did not contain all of the voices that the full orchestration had. Therefore, I reduced the full orchestral score into this work for solo harp… I encourage the player to exercise creativity in adapting this transcription for the harp…
What sets this harp transcription apart from a typical piano reduction is the magical, unique sonority of the harp that we harpists often take for granted… I enjoy fully utilizing the natural resonance of the harp to fill the performance space and effectively create smooth legato lines to mimic the fullness of an orchestra.”
