Playing scales in a canon between the hands is a classic exercise on the harp, frequently used to build scale technique. It can be a challenging exercise to learn or teach, and here in a set of eighteen short incremental exercises, harpists begin by playing simple one octave scales in each hand and slowly adding on a step at a time. In addition to working on technique, many people use scales in canon as a warm-up.
