What people are saying about Harp Crossings
Diana Stork has written a delightful collection of Latin-inspired pieces. She has done an excellent job of making the music totally accessible for lever, Latin, and pedal harp. Each piece is perfectly suited for intermediate harp players, lies well in the hands and is easily understood. They cover a nice variety of Latin rhythms, fast and slow tempos and some fun ‘south-of-the-border’ harp techniques. The music lends itself well to the concert hall or as background music for parties, weddings or special events. As a collection of Latin-inspired music, it’s a valuable addition to the intermediate harp repertoire. ~ Karen Gottlieb, 2nd Harpist, San Francisco Symphony, 1986 – 2016, Principal harp, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, 1986-2018, Teacher, Harp Technician.
Harpists everywhere, playing lever, pedal, or Latin harps, will be delighted with another wonderful book of Diana Stork’s inspired and fun-to-play compositions. My students and I love Diana’s pieces and my harp ensemble has performed many of them. Diana has a special ability to absorb musical influences from many different styles and turn them into elegant, enchanting pieces for the harp that have her own unique sound and spirit. ~ Cheryl Ann Fulton, BS, MM, DM in Harp Indiana University.
Touch and Tone Technique Diana is filling a void in the harping world. Very little written music can be found for the various Latin american harp styles, making it difficult for many harpers to even attempt the styles. Through these written arrangements and compositions, this book (hopefully the first of many) puts these pieces and styles within reach of harpers who would like to explore and learn other styles. ~ William M. Faulkner, Hartnell College Department of Music Arpista Municipal de Tequila, Jalisco; Hijo Adoptivo de Zapotiltic, Jalisco
Diana Stork’s Latin-infused music is energetic, rhythmic, inspiring, and simply great to listen to; but now with this book of 14 of her original Latin style compositions we can also enjoy playing her music on our lever, Latin, or pedal harps! There are numerous techniques you may have heard used by Paraguayan harpers, and they are quite fun to play on lever harps – glissandos with fingernails, tremolos, damped bass lines, and of course the very hip Latin syncopation will be found throughout the collection. The gentler pieces would be a great addition to any therapeutic musician’s repertoire. — Verlene Schermer, CCM, Lever Harpist, Composer
Diana Stork’s engaging new collection of her own compositions is composed in just the style needed for the many types of occasions in which harpists perform. The editing is clear with left and right hand lines well laid out on the page and easy to read. Rhythmic and lighthearted, with a touch of romance, these pieces are a joy to learn and play. ~ Natalie Cox, Principal harpist with Oakland Symphony, 1980-2015
I love Diana’s music! What a refreshing experience to play it and hear it. So evocative and
beautiful. There is lots of feminine energy to feel in her Latin-inspired music, which is not
often found in this style. ~ Carolyn Sykes, Harpist, Owner Pacific Harps
These pieces stand as both an excellent window into the rich culture and contagious rhythms of
Latin-America and a testament to the important role women play in expanding, developing and
preserving Latin-American music traditions.
~ Amelia Romano, Lever Harpist, Composer
