“This book contains a variety of songs and dances originally written in the twelfth through the sixteenth centuries which have been arranged for the harp. The majority of the pieces are drawn from the medieval period and often existed in their original form as melody line only.
“The cantigas were Spanish sacred songs of the thirteenth century which were written in honor of the Virgin Mary. Over 400 of these were collected by King Alfonso X “The Wise” of Castile (1252-1284).
A popular instrumental dance of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries was called the estampie…
“Trouveres were aristocratic poet-musicians of northern France during the mid-twelfth to thirteenth centuries. 800 of their songs with the melodies are in existence today…
“All of the pieces in this book are playable on the folk harp. A few do have accidentals which require lever changes. It is my hope that harpers of today will enjoy and perform this music from another time.” Deborah Friou
