“O’Carolan’s Concerto” is a bold and lively piece which may have been influenced by the Italian Baroque composer Fancesco Geminiani (1687-1762) who lived in Dublin at that time. “Brigid Cruis” (or Bridget Cruise), one of four beautiful airs with this name, unlike the majority of Carolan’s other airs which were written for specific patrons, may have been written for a lost love from Carolan’s youth. This Second (or Third) Air provides a contrast to the concerto with its lyrical and soulful theme.
