From the pen of Hoffman comes the story about two children, Clara and Fritz, whose parents decide to give them a wonderful party during the Christmas holiday season by asking a famous magician, Drosselmeyer, to entertain. Not only does he accept but he comes loaded with amazing toys and dolls that dance. He gives Clara a nutcracker that Fritz also wants, and as they quarrel over it the nutcracker gets thrown aside. Finally it’s bedtime but Clara can’t sleep thinking of “her” nutcracker so she quietly sneaks downstairs for another peek. In the darkened living room she sees the nutcracker leading a troup of toy soldiers against an army of mice. Wanting to help, she pulls off a slipper and hits the King of Mice, enabling the toy soldiers to win the battle. Then in a puff of smoke, the nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince who rewards Clara with a journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. Here they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy who provides Arabian, Chinese, and Russian dances for entertainment. Miss Sugar Plum herself does a beautiful ballet and brings the festivities to an end with the now famous Waltz of the Flowers. While this tale might not be entirely true it has been the dream of many harpists to reproduce the tantalizing and sometimes magical music that Tchaikovsky wrote to bring these delightful creatures to life. So at last, after almost a hundred years from its creation, here it is just for you . . . the score of the Nutcracker Suite just for harp. PLAY AWAY!!!
