This charming song is a “must have” for the Holiday Season. The Christmas melody was originally composed as “Flow Gently, Sweet Afton” and may be enjoyed any time of year!
The music is arranged for two harps, intermediate level. It would go well in ensemble. Verse 1 is a Harp 1 Solo, repeated “as is” for verse 2. Harp 1 has well-marked lever changes to accommodate the delicate harmonies. Harp 2 Accompaniment comes in for the Verse 2 duet and has no lever changes.
Sweet Afton is a lyrical poem describing the Afton Water in Ayrshire, Scotland. It was written by Robert Burns in 1791[1] and set to music by Jonathan E. Spilman in 1837, under the title Flow gently, sweet Afton.
